Day 7: A song that reminds you of a certain event #30dsc

As I’ve mentioned before, Dundee United fans don’t always have the best taste in music. Love is in the Air is one of the classics though and will always remind me of the 2010 Scottish Cup Final. What better day to post this than the day we beat Motherwell 4-0?

Love is in the Air

I haven’t blogged for a while, perhaps I just wanted to leave the pictures of the semi-final visible for good luck! It certainly worked, as anyone with an interest in football will have worked out by now. After a first half of not-so-great football, and no goals, Goodwillie and then Conway lit up Hampden to leave the final score at 3-0. As many others have commented this week, the  day was as much about the atmosphere of a cup final and the goodwill between the two sets of fans, as it was about the football. It was very much a family occasion, with loads of wee kids sitting around us in the stand. You wonder how many parents would have taken their kids to a game against one of the Old Firm? Certainly the atmosphere was very different to the Scottish cup final in 2005 (against Celtic), or the 2008 CIS Cup final, (against Rangers).

We sang our hearts out, both in the pub before the game, and then during and after. It’s a great feeling, but boy do United fans have dodgy taste in music! Love is in the Air, Beautiful Sunday, (I Can’t Help) Falling in Love with You, and Put Your Hands Up for Detroit (although that one has a good story attached). Thank goodness for Ricky Ross, which is not a sentence I ever thought I’d hear myself say!

Some photos and a wee video below, more here

What a way to end the Centenary Season, and now we have the juicy prospect of European football to look forward to in the near future. Now that my voice has returned, I couldn’t be happier!

Guess where I was on Sunday…

Dundee United 2 – 0 Raith Rovers

Some people think I’m mad to go all that way “just” for a football game. All I can say is bring on Ross County!
