Day 4: A song that makes you sad #30dsc

The Partisan was originally written by Anna Marly (Anna Yurievna Betulinskaya), a Russian-born cabaret singer, who fled to London from France in 1940. She also wrote Chant des Partisans, which became an anthem of the French Resistance fighters during WWII.

This version is by Leonard Cohen, and is my favourite of all the cover versions I’ve heard of this song. On the one hand it makes me sad, but it also gives me hope.
